Hello, I'm Ben
Finding the right person to talk to is an important decision, and the quality of the connection we build is the most crucial part of our work together. I am an Integrative Counsellor based in North Yorkshire, providing a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space for you to speak openly and feel heard.
I have a particular interest in supporting:
Men’s Mental Health: Providing a space where traditional expectations can be set aside.
The LGBT Community: Exploring identity and specific challenges in a safe, affirming environment.
Neurodivergent Clients: I am actively developing my competency in this area to ensure my practice is inclusive of the diverse ways our brains process the world.
Why Counselling?
Sooner or later, most of us encounter challenges that can feel too heavy to resolve alone, leaving us feeling unable to live life to its fullest. Counselling aims to provide the dedicated space and time to explore these and find ways to accept or resolve them. My role is not to ‘fix’ you or offer unsolicited advice. Instead, I hope to walk alongside you to help you unlock your own resources and gain the insights needed to navigate your way forward.
My Approach
Because every person’s experience is unique, I work collaboratively using an integrative model. I don’t believe in a one size fits all solution, I draw from a number of different therapeutic frameworks to suit your specific needs and goals.
My practice is rooted in Person-Centred Therapy, ensuring your perspective always leads our work. I weave this together with Gestalt techniques to help you stay aware of the here and now, becoming conscious of how emotions live in your body in the present moment. To help make sense of the bigger picture, I use Transactional Analysis to explore the roles we play in relationships and the unconscious scripts that might be holding you back. By combining these, we can address immediate feelings while gaining clarity on the deeper patterns that shape your life.
My Background
My path to counselling was built on a decade of experience in the high-pressure legal sector in London. This corporate background gives me a first-hand understanding of the burnout, stress, and complex professional dynamics that many of us face. I know what it is like to navigate those environments, and I bring that grounded, real-world perspective into the therapy room.
Returning to my rural Yorkshire roots has helped me balance that professional drive with a more relaxed and present approach to life. This balance is something I strive to share with my clients, helping them find their own sense of meaning and contentment.
If you feel we might work well together, I would be delighted to hear from you.
I am currently seeing clients via Serendipity in York.
